Bayonetta - PlayStation 3 vs Xbox 360 comparison

24 shots; pure-digital capture - the definitive comparison

Following on from lesser comparison galleries on other websites, where a few fuzzy, washed-out analogue-capture screenshots were compared, here's a 24-strong batch of proper screenshots for each version.

Quality AND quantity.

So when we say proper screenshots, we mean both versions were captured using direct-digital capture - what you see here are the exact frames generated by the consoles. No analogue degradation here.

Our 360 is on 'Expanded' HDTV setting.

Our PS3 is on full RGB with Super White set to on.

Anyway, tech aside, which one's better? Well, the 360 version trumps the PS3 in terms of looks. The colours are more vibrant, there's less screen tearing and overall it does seem to be a higher quality build. See for yourselves below.

Take a look at this picture. The bloom on the tree tops are much better on the 360 version. but the hair is aliased on the 360 version where the ps3 version is silky smooth.

Someone did an analysis and its not good the 360 version pretty much doubles the ps3 version when it comes to frame rate, and tearing is worse on the ps3 version.

The builds are quite different, we had trouble capturing identical frames at moments when they should've been literally identical.

But then, I suppose they're going to be different though, if it's two separate teams creating the versions.

In many cases demos really are a good indication of what to expect from final versions, despite what fanboys say when defending bad demos. This time round though, we're really not sure what to expect from the final games.

As for the quality of the game, I found it quite fun. If you're into mad, fast-paced actioners then there's a lot to love. It has that sort of old-school charm that you just don't get from realistic and gruesome shooters.

Can you please do a comparison of Batman: AA, Burnout:Paradise, Star Wars: FU, Mirror's Edge, etc....

Or do you only do comparisons that help your cause?

Just wondering.

Let's see. Anyone who has visited this site before can plainly see that all comparison articles are of games that you think look better on the 360. Whether it be from a different developer porting the PS3 version of said game, or you comparing a full 360 game against a PS3 demo. The fact is your comparison articles are only of the one variety. Some viewers could attribute that as this sites Pro-360 fanboyism or as a way to rile up people and get yourself some cheap hits on this site.

So, I'm asking. Where are the comparison articles showing some of the PS3 games that are better than the 360 version?

I mean, surely if this is not a biased site, you are sure to have some laying around somewhere in the archives.

Well, our original Forza vs GT5P comparison concluded that GT5P had a more realistic look and better cars...

I think people who cry fanboy all the time are actually fanboys themselves. The simple fact is we don't prefer one console over the other. We love and hate both in equal measure. You can disagree with that all you like, but that says more about your frame of mind than it does any bias on our side.

Oh and a Batman comparison is on the way actually. The others you mention are a bit older, so aren't as high on the list, but we are aiming to do everything eventually.

i think the demos are a pretty good representation of what to expect for the japanese PS3 version when it comes out at the end of this month.

seems like they're going to use the extra time to polish it for other territories, as far as the 360 version goes i'm pretty sure platinum games signed off on it and handed it over to sega.
